Crash Splits Car;
2 Men Are Killed

The traffic deaths of two young Madison men, killed about 4 a.m. Wednesday when their Corvair split in half crashing at the South Beltline-Park St. interchange, were rules "accidental" by Coroner Clyde Chamberlain Jr.

Killed were: Danny John Waller, 18, the driver, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Waller, 124 N. Hancock St. Joseph Lynn Klassy, 19, the passenger who was married and had an infant son, and lived with his widowed mother, Mrs. Donald (Inez) Klassy, 717 Mayfair Ave.

COUNTY POLICE said the Corvair, apparently traveling at high speed, struck a solid metal guardrail at the westbound exit from the Beltline to S. Park St. and careened topside into a cement-embedded metal pole holding the big, green highway-route sign.

The pole split the car, with the two sections landing about 52 feet apart, Policeman John Detra reported.

Both yong men, who were not wearing seat belts, were thrown from the car. They were pronounced dead upon arrival at a Madison hospital from severe head and neck injuries.

Chamberlain sid it was not known where or to where the young men were travelling.

Their deaths raised the Madison and Dane County traffic toll this year to 34.

Both Waller and Lkassy had been students at Central-University High School.

FUNERAL SERVICES for both young men are pending at the Schroeder Funeral home, 3325 E. Washington Ave.

Waller's survivors, besides his parents, include three brothers and a sister at home, Richard, Terry, Michael, and Janet, and two other sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Russell, 1418 Loftsgordon Ave., and Mrs. Richard Edmark, Racine.

Klassy is survived by his wife, Lila, and a son, Jospeh, who lives in Madison; his mother; two brothers, Romaine, 5402 Temple Ct., and Stephen, with the navy submarine service; a sister, Mrs. Mark Moffat, Battle Creek, Mich., and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Jones, Stoughton, and Henry Klassy, New Glarus.

Obituary: David Gladstone - Class of 1966

ARIZONA - David Gladstone, age 30, died Saturday, October 21, 1978 in a small plane accident in California. He was the son of Dr. and Mrs. Herman Gladstone of Tuscon, Arizona. He is survived by two sisters, Lila at Madison and Shiela of Tuscon, one brother, Donn of California. Mr. Gladstone was formerly of Shorewood Hills in Madison and a graduate of West High School.

Note: David Gladstone was a member of the Madison Central-University High School Class of 1966, so there is an error in the obituary. When Madison Central-University High School closed in 1969, student records were transferred to Madison West High School; perhaps this is the basis for the error in reporting.

Obituary: Glen H. Jones - Class of 1966

VERONA - Glenn H. Jones, age 32, of 114 Paoli St., died on Tuesday, September 9, 1980. He was born on January 9, 1948 in Madison. He was a Truck Driver for Nagel-Hart Inc. for the past 14 years. Survivors include his wife the former Sandra Hammen; two daughters, Heather Lee and Stefanie; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Verlin Jones of Madison; three borther, Verlin Delos and Raymond both of Madison, and Vertus of Farmington Hills, Michigan. Funeral services will be held at ST. JAMES LUTHERAN CHURCH, Verona at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 12. The Reverend Robert Borgwardt will officiate. Burial is in Verona Cemetery. Frends may call from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, September 11 at the JOYCE-VERONA FUNERAL HOME, 118 N. Franklin St., Verona.

Obituary: Bernard Mazursky - Class of 1966

Sp.4 Mazursky
Rites Tuesday

Funeral services for Army Sp.4 Bernard Mazursky, 20, son of Mrs. Rose Mazursky, 314 S. Orchard St., will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Fitch-Lawrence Funeral Home, 626 University Ave.

Sp. Mazursky was killed in action in Vietnam May 4. He had been in the army since Dec. 1, 1966. He was in Madison about a month ago while his unit was being transferred from Germany to Vietnam.

He was a 1966 graduate of Central-University High School and a member of Beth Israel Center.

Surviving besides his mother are three brothers, Marvin, 2110 Tawhee Dr., Larry, Tarzana, Calif; and Charles, San Francisco; and two sisters, Linda and Beverly, at home.

Military graveside rites will be held in Forest Hill Cemetery,

There will be no visitation at the funeral home, but friends may call at the Mazursky residence during the week. The family has asked that memorials be made to the Beth Israel Center Memorial Fund.

Laurie R. Sacks - Class of 1966

MADISON - Laurie R. Sacks, age 36, recently of 918 Swathmore Court, died unexpectedly in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, July 26, 1984. Born in Oberlin, Ohio, on April 18, 1948, she moved with her family to Madison in 1961. She graduated from Madison Central High School and received a BA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with majors in Anthropology, Spanish and Ibero-American Studies. Following graduation she served for two years in the Peace Corps in Honduras and remained there for two more years doing significant work in the organization of the Honduran Indian Institute. Returning to the United States she engaged in social work for Hispanics in Wisconsin and New Mexico, where she received a MA in Anthropology from the University of New Mexico. She lived for many years in Las Cruces continuing her social work with Hispanics; while at the same time she carried on fund raising for the Honduran Indian Institute. Ms. Sacks is survived by her parents, Professor and Mrs. Norman Sacks of 918 Swarthmore Court; a sister, Julie Levin of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; and a brother, Robert of Los Angeles, California. A memorial service will be held at TEMPLE BETH EL, 2702 Arbor Drive, on Tuesday, July 31 at 11 a.m. Rabbi Kenneth Roseman will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate that contributions be made to the Honduran Indian Institute, c/o Bank of Shorewood Hills. CRESS FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary: Patrick A. Tague - Class of 1966

OSHKOSH/MADISON - Patrick A. Tague, age 35, died on Saturday, May 14, 1983, as the result of a motor vehicle accident on Thursday, May 12, 1983. Born on May 1, 1948, in Norfolk, Virginia, he was the son of Vincent and Barbara Tague. A graduate of Madison Technical College, he had been in the United States Army since 1967. He married Ruth Berg in Madison on August 7, 1967. Survivors are his wife, Ruth of Oshkosh; two children, Lisa and Michael both at home; his parents of Madison; and two brothers, Robert and Dennis, both of Madison. Funeral services will be held at the FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in Oshkosh, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Internment will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Madison. Friends may call at the SEEFEILD CHURCH AVENUE CHAPEL in Oshkosh on Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m.

Obituary: Donald J. Reed - Class of 1966

Donald J. Reed,
UW Senior, Dies

Donald J. Reed, 22, of 4114 Major Ave., died Friday (Mar. 12, 1971) in a hospital after a long illness.

He was a senior at the University of Wisconsin majoring in speech and communications and was a member of St. Dennis Catholic Church and the University Handicapped Club.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Marguerite Reed, 4114 Major Ave.; two sisters, Kathryn, at home; and Mrs. Robert Corcoran, 5108 Maher Ave; and a brother, Robert, Alice Springs, Australia.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the church. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Gunderson Funeral Home, 5202 Monona Dr., where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 tonight.

Memorials may be made to the church of the Muscular Dystrophy Research Foundation.
